Your state has reopened eye care provider locations for non-essential services, such as annual eye exams and contact lens fittings. While routine vision care has resumed, you may see changes at your next visit to your eye care provider’s office. Please continue to adhere to the CDC’s guidelines for best health practices during the reopening and review the below FAQs for further details.
1. Can I schedule a routine eye exam?
Yes, your state has allowed eye care providers to resume non-essential services. Still, it is recommended to reach out to your eye care provider before visiting the office to ensure you know what safety and sanitation protocols they have in place.
If you’re looking for an eye doctor log into our website at https://www.e-nva.com/nva/content/home/login-register.xhtml. Prior to your visit, please call your eye care provider to confirm hours and/or any other changes.
2. Should I make an appointment if I am high risk or sick?
If you or someone in your household is sick, it is recommended that you stay home. If you have a scheduled eye doctor’s appointment, please call to reschedule for a time when you or your family member is better.
If you are high risk, you should first consult with your health care professional if it is safe for you to leave your home for a nonessential service. If you can leave your home, reach out to your eye care provider before visiting the office and make them aware that you are high risk. Ask if they have specific store hours for high risk patients.
If you cannot leave your home due to sickness or being high risk, it may still be possible to order contact lenses or eyeglasses:
Eyeglasses
If you have a valid prescription and an out of network benefit you can order eyeglasses online from the following retailers. Please understand that if you use an online service for eyeglasses then you will need to pay by credit card in full and submit a direct reimbursement claim form to NVA for reimbursement which may not cover the total cost of what you order.
You can order online from Warby Parker at www.warbyparker.com or call them at 1-888-492-7297.
You can order online from Frames Direct at www.framesdirect.com or call them at 1-800-248-9427.
You can order online from Eyeglasses.com at www.eyeglasses.com or call them at 1-888-896-3885.
Contact Lenses
If you have a valid prescription you can order lenses online at Contact Fill, an online contact lens mail service. You can use your NVA vision benefit when you order so there’s no need to file a claim for reimbursement. Order at 1-866-234-1393 or at https://www.contactfill.com/
If you’re prescription has expired and it’s been over 12 months since you have seen your current eye doctor, you may want to reach out to them to see if they will extend your prescription due to the current circumstances. Federal Law states replacement contact lenses can only be dispensed with a valid prescription that is less than 12 months old.
3. Can I use my NVA benefit?
We are committed to continuing to provide service to all our members during these trying times. Your benefits are available as normal, and you can always contact our customer service center 24/7/365 days a year at:

4. Can I use telemedicine services for eye exams?
Unfortunately, due to the nature of the exam, comprehensive eye exams need to be conducted in person. However, in case of an eye emergency, consult with your eye doctor to see if he/she offers telemedicine. If yes, check to see if this service is covered by your health insurance. Your vision benefit does not cover telemedicine services.
That said, if you have a valid prescription you will still be able to order eyeglasses and contact lenses online.

5. What precautions will my eye care professional be taking once I schedule an appointment?
As the country continues to re-open during COVID-19, so do the eye care provider locations that participate in the NVA provider network. With these openings, come a few changes. The American Optometric Association explains what changes you can expect at your next eye doctor’s visit:
- Strict protocols for cleaning and sterilization of the office
- Possible temperature readings in the office to check for COVID-19 symptoms
- Social distance practices including limiting number of patients in waiting room
- Staff and patients may be required to wear face masks and/or gloves
- Limitation on hours of operation
If you or someone in your household is sick, it is recommended that you stay home. If you have a scheduled eye doctor’s appointment, please call to reschedule for a time when you or your family member is better.
These new safety practices may take time to adjust to, but they are in place to protect all of us.

6. Can I use an out-of-network provider?
Yes, if your plan offers an out-of-network benefit.
Here’s a NVA Smart Buyer® Tip – Using an in-network provider saves you money. NVA’s national network of providers includes over 87,000 access points of care in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. The network is comprised of independent practitioners as well as optical retailers. You can easily check to see if your provider participates by calling us toll-free at 800-672-7723 or using the provider locator on this website. If your provider is not currently one of our providers, contact us and we will invite that provider to join the NVA provider network.
If you visit an out-of-network provider and if your plan has an out-of-network benefit, you can complete and submit the online form or download a hard copy reimbursement form from our website.
